Lynette leaned down, frowning as she squinted at his chest.

Tyrone tried to get a look at what himself without moving too much "What, you mess up or something?"

She sent a glower in his direction, snorting dismissively at that notion. Her purple eyes glowed eerily in the pale light of the tattoo room. "I don't mess up, big boy. Just looking at your scar," she rasped.

"Scar?" asked Jennifer, leaning over to get a closer look.

"Oh boy, all these pretty ladies fussing over me," he laughed.

Jennifer blushed a little. Lynette just rolled her eyes. "Sorry, Tyrone, I'm not a cradle robber like this one here."

Jennifer gawped. "Cradle robber! What? That's not-"

Lynette chuckled dryly. "Just teasing. Hm, must have hit a soft spot."

"Do you have a rest room," Jennifer asked, rather icily.

Lynette lifted the tattoo needle for a moment to point in the direction of the little bathroom adjacent to the work space. Jennifer went off in a bit of a subdued huff, and Lynette bent back down to go to work.

"So that's your fair lady, eh?"

He was about to shrug, and forced himself to remain still instead. "I guess so."

"She's a pretty one."

"I noticed that too."

"Bit older than you."

"So are you, Lynette. And I've heard the stories about you."

She laughed, sticking her tongue out to fiddle at the piercing in her lower lip. "You do like to talk. All you black boys in Marquis' little gang. Don't believe everything you hear. And don't believe everything she tells you."

He frowned. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"You're an experience, Tyrone. Her little fantasy. I don't see her in here getting your initials inked on her chest."

He shook his head slowly. "That's not what it's about. I'm not marrying the woman. I have my team's logo, and I'll never play for them again after my senior year is over. It's about the memory, that's all."

She cocked one eyebrow at him. "Is it really? Well... don't get your heart broken, Tyrone. I hate having to ink over my own work."

"I'll keep that in mind."

"Well... that was certainly an interesting experience." Jennifer sat back in the driver's seat of her SUV and breathed a heavy sigh. She'd seemed to relax immediately as soon as the door closed, like she'd just set down a heavy weight off her shoulders.

"You like it?"

"The tattoo? Oh my God, Ty, it's lovely. I can't believe you did that. It's... a lot."

"Too much? Because, like I was telling Lynette, it's not-"

She leaned over, touching one finger against his lips. "It's perfect, Ty. Thank you." She smiled then, a slow and wicket sort of smile. "I just don't know how I'm ever going to replay you, is all."

He grinned back. "I'll bet you can think of a few ways."

"Hm, I'll bet." She tapped the wheel, her fingers dancing on the leather cover. "You... uh, you know how to drive, right?"

He rolled his eyes. "Yeah, I can drive, baby. Shit." He decided it would be better not to mention that he'd learned by stealing cars with his cousin Leroy, and didn't actually have a license, as such.
